Before you purchased your RV, did you longingly look out at RVers seemingly living their best lives on the road? Traveling from coast to coast, doing what they wanted, when they wanted, and all in supreme comfort? Seemed pretty nice, didn’t it?
But living that enviable RV lifestyle doesn’t always come easy — as you've probably figured out by now. Getting the most out of the RV lifestyle takes a few things, such as…
You’ve spent years scheduling out your time! Work schedules, family obligations, children’s after-school activities, date nights, holidays, vacations — every day of your life scheduled out. Now that you’re living the RV lifestyle and you have a little more (or rather, a lot more) flexibility, why keep yourself to such a stringent schedule?
Similarly, don’t try to do too much, too quickly. Sure, you can drive to every single state, but there’s no reason you have to hit one or two states per week. Go at a pace that you actually enjoy.
Relax a little and try to learn how to take each day as it comes. It’s easier said than done, of course, but if you can go with the flow, you’ll be much happier with life on the go.
You just dropped all this money on your new RV and now you’re expected to outfit it with all your creature comforts from home? Well, yeah.
Creature comforts are what make us comfortable and at ease. If you don’t feel comfy and happy in your new RV, you’re not going to enjoy spending weeks at a time in it. Of course, your RV is probably wonderfully outfitted as it is, but adding a few personal touches goes a long way.
Add some personal decor, invest in some furnishings that feel like “you” and look for outdoor accessories that make your home away from home just that. From fire pits to hanging lanterns, greenery to even a new shower head, if you think it’ll make your RV that much more enjoyable, go ahead and get it.
One of the best parts of RVing is the people you meet along the way and the relationships you form with other RVers. Make finding those folks easier when you join an RV club or group. Even discount-based communities like Passport America are a good place to start — and they’ll save you some cash in the meantime.
If there was ever a time to be selfish, it’s now, when you and possibly your partner or spouse have an RV all to yourself. Make the RV lifestyle what YOU want it to be.
If that means traveling to the same spots over and over again because that’s what you want, do it. If that means never building a campfire or turning on your RV stove, and eating at restaurants the entire time you travel, do it. Don’t feel like your RV lifestyle has to be the same as someone else’s RV lifestyle.
It might not be the most fun part of owning an RV, but keeping up to date on your maintenance and regular RV care can ensure that you never struggle with an untimely breakdown that throws your entire trip off course. Keeping up to date on maintenance will also ensure that you’re always able to hit the road when you want, no waiting around for necessary maintenance required.
The RV lifestyle is a blessing, and one to appreciate, so don’t make the mistake of not enjoying it to the full. Incorporating a few of the above tips into your RV lifestyle will help.
